Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. Her father took an early interest in the theatre. As a student in Emory University he appeared in diverse productions, both in and outside of the campus. After he enlisted in the Air Force in Biloxi, he was seen alongside Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. Eric Anthony was their first born. The couple got married in the year. Walter was a student at Tulane University at New Orleans, Louisiana in 1957 after they had separated from the US Air Force. Walter worked for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1960, the family moved in Decatur Georgia. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning show on local television for kids named Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. This was a project that they funded themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was founded in 1964 and ran for six years. Lelisa Billingsley who is also referred to as Lisa was born in the year 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
